Playbooks let you set up protection plans by uploading an Excel file instead of stepping through the wizard — useful for large environments and repeatable configurations. Datamotive provides a template per supported platform; uploaded playbooks are validated before any plan is created.
Playbook operations
| Operation | Description |
|---|---|
| Generate | Creates and downloads a playbook template (.xlsx) pre-filled with the VMs you select. |
| Upload | Uploads a filled template, validates it, and creates the protection plan from it. |
| Remove | Deletes a playbook. Playbooks associated with an active protection plan cannot be deleted. |
Generate a template
Select sites
Click Generate and select the Protection Site and Target Site. The protected VMs for the selected protection site are listed.
Select VMs and download
Select the desired VMs and click Generate and Download. An
.xlsxtemplate is downloaded with one row per workload.
Upload and configure
Fill in the template
Complete the recovery configuration columns in the downloaded file.
Upload
Click Upload and select the filled playbook.
Validate
Run Validate on the uploaded playbook. Validation checks the inputs against the target platform.
Configure
Click Configure to create the protection plan. It then appears under Protection Plans like any wizard-created plan.
You can also export a playbook from an existing plan at any time with Actions → Download Playbook — the file captures the plan's configuration and current state, which doubles as plan documentation.
